Dr William McLean

Specialist in Endodontics

William McLean graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine Dental School in 1997. During his undergraduate years, he intercalated and was awarded a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Dental Science. Following graduation, he was awarded an Action Research Training Fellowship to pursue his PhD. The following four years were spent at Harvard Medical School Department of Cell Biology investigating craniofacial and skeletal development. In 2002, he took up a position as a lecturer at Manchester University in the School of Biological Sciences. In 2004, he returned to clinical practice and subsequently undertook postgraduate training in Endodontology.

He now divides him time between Endodontic referral practice and academic practice. He is the Academic Lead for Undergraduate Endodontics at the University of Glasgow Dental School, programme co-ordinator for the MSc Endodontics and lead for the Glasgow Endodontology Group. He currently is treasurer of the British Endodontic Society and a Dental School Tutor for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Deirdre Collins

Deirdre qualified from Queens University Belfast in 2010 and has worked at Torwood Dental Practice since 2016.

She prides herself on building good relationships with patients and striving to deliver high-quality dentistry in a caring and friendly manner. Deirdre enjoys working with anxious patients and children, helping them leave the surgery with a smile on their faces. She has a special interest in periodontics.

Introducing our Associate Dentist Lynsey Smith who qualified from Aberdeen Dental School in 2013. Prior to graduation as a dentist, she gained a BSc (Hons) in Dietetics and an MSc in Diabetes with distinction in Edinburgh. She worked as a hospital dietitian specialising mainly in kidney disease for 10 years, prior to retraining for a career as a dentist.

Following on from graduation Lynsey has worked in dental practices in Aberdeenshire and latterly in Stornoway before a move to Inverness to join Torwood Dental. She takes great pleasure in looking after her patients and making them feel at ease throughout their treatment. Her caring and friendly approach aids patients to feel involved in the decision making aspects of their care and helps them to relax and feel confident whilst undergoing dental treatments.

Lynsey enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and feels strongly that everyone should have access to good quality dental care. She is also now offering the clear orthodontic alignment system Invisalign at the practice.

Henry Cairns

Dr Henry Cairns graduated from the University of Dundee in 2016 as a Dental Therapist. He went on to study at the University of Aberdeen to become a Dentist, graduating in 2020. Henry has completed a postgraduate diploma in Implant Dentistry with the Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology and has a special interest in this area alongside clear aligner orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry.

As well as completing his diploma in implant dentistry, Henry has undertaken further training for the provision of full arch implant placement and has most recently begun offering CHROME GuidedSMILE – a revolutionary ‘new smile in a day’ guided implant solution.

Henry offers a full range of implant treatment and accepts referrals for single units up to full mouth reconstruction.
